Man Utd chief Ed Woodward will be 'a busy man' says Sky Sports man on eve of deadline day

MANCHESTER UNITED chief executive Ed
Woodward will be a ‘busy man’ in the coming
months as he sorts out the club’s contract
problem.
By Rhys Turrell / Published 30th January 2019
Manchester United have a host of senior stars
coming towards the end of their deals at Old
Trafford.
The likes of Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Ander
Herrera could all leave in the summer for nothing.
And another pressing concern is key duo Anthony
Martial and David de Gea having just 18 months
left on their deals.

Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, he said:
“De Gea and Martial have time to run on their
contracts moreso than others
“These are big players who have played a big part
in United's team in the past few years.
UPDATE: ANTHONY MARTIAL TO SIGN NEW MAN
UTD CONTRACT BY FRIDAY
“Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and
Ashley Young all out of contract.
“Young and Valencia are ageing players but Mata
was a club-record signing not so long ago.
“Phil Jones, Darmian
and Pereira as well and
Solskjaer has said he
wants him to be part of
the first-team fold.
“Ander Herrera is a very popular player at Old
Trafford. He's played a lot of games under
Solskjaer so these are big players that you don't
really want, from a business point of view, to leave
for nothing in the summer.
“With the structure of the club, how long a contract
do you offer these players because they aren't
getting any younger?
“If United are going to be building for the future, do
they want to be giving these 30-plus players
contract that are going to see them at the club for
the next two or three years.
“Will they be willing to accept a one-year contract?
“There's a lot of negotiations to be done here. Ed
Woodward is going to be a busy, busy man.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer felt United proved a point
about their battling qualities after a stirring
fightback in a 2-2 draw against Burnley at Old
Trafford last night.
Solskjaer had overseen eight consecutive victories
since taking interim charge last month although the
honeymoon period looked to be coming to an end
when Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood gave the
Clarets a shock 2-0 lead.
It was the first time United had trailed under
Solskjaer but his unbeaten record would remain in
tact as Paul Pogba's 87th-minute penalty and
Victor's Lindelof's strike in time added-on rescued
a 2-2 draw.
The Norwegian was not entirely satisfied with the
stalemate but said: "The way they came back was
fantastic, so of course you're happy with the point.
"Then again we could have got three. We just ran
out of time towards the end and we started too
late with the urgency that we needed, that's a
learning curve.
"But now you've got your answer: can they come
back if they go one or two down? I'm very happy
with the response."
